Talking about sexual integrity/purity

March 31, 2010

I worked with Delia at the school while Tom and Dean piled firewood when it wasn't raining.

We went to PC 3/4 and I was able to facilitate a group discussion on sexual integrity/purity, STDs, pregnancy, abortion, post-abortion recovery with the young women there.  It was attended by 13 young women, including one who is 4.5 months pregnant, as well as the facility social worker and two translators.  It was well received and very much appreciated.  I was told that this was information that they had never received.  We talked about God's will and desire for our lives with respect to sexual activity.  They all knew that they were supposed to wait until marriage, but they didn't really know why.  The young woman who is pregnant stated that she thought that abortion was a sin.  I told her that I was proud of her for choosing life for her child and commended her for wanting to offer her child something that she never had, but we also had the opportunity to talk about how difficult it is to be a pregnant, unwed, young woman and the other young women agreed that was something that none of them them wanted for themself.

We went to Betel Church in Resita.  Tom and I shared testimonies and Dean shared the message.

Today is "La Multi Ani" - Thank you for the happy birthday wishes

March 30, 2010
We walked to school this morning.  Delia and I worked with the 3s, 4s, K5s and K6s this morning.  As the K6 class went outside for recess.  I went upstairs to lend a hand with English language class for the second graders.  It is Romanian custom that when it is your birthday you supply the food/treats so I had a cake for the students and teachers.  The children sang happy birthday to me in English and Romanian.

Afterschool we went to the placement center in the nearby village.  We had a cake f...

29 March:

March 30, 2010

As Holy week has begun, there are church services every evening to commemmorate the arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem and the events of that week, including His death and resurrection.  In the past this is the week that students are out of school for Easter vacation/spring break.  As a matter of fact, Good Friday is a national holiday; however, this year the children are not officially out of school.

28 March: Churchin' It part 3

March 28, 2010
We attended the morning service at Biserica Harul (Grace Baptist Church).  They had a beautiful Flower's Day Service
(Palm Sunday) with several recitations and songs done by the children.

We went to the home of one of the teachers at Scoala Crestina Harul for lunch and it was awesome.  I actually had lamb that was so well prepared I enjoyed it.  Unfortunately, when we returned home Tom and Dean were not feeling well and they were unable to leave the house to attend the other services.

25 March: Day 2 of Roof Project and English 101

March 28, 2010
We woke up this morning and headed out to the construction site.  While the men were working on setting the ten initial beams in place and placing the main cross beam, Bodgan and I were taking our suitcase English 101 on the road.  We managed to round up four children that didn't like to attend school.

I was able to meet and talk with the woman that lives next door to where we are building the church.

24 March: Day 1 Roof Project on Village Church in Nemesesti and English 101

March 27, 2010
Brother Ionel and his son Bogdan picked us up at the Olariu home and we arrived at the Tutac Family Home in Costieu just in time for a lovely brunch that Brother Ionel had asked his mother to prepare.  We then went to the village of Nemesesti where Dean and Tom were to help put the roof on a new church.  While they were scoping out the project, Bogdan and I went to the village school and gave an American history and geography lesson as well as English 101.  The village school has only five ch...

Yea! Dean and Tom arrived

March 23, 2010

I had a really rough night.  I woke up with severe abdominal cramps around 3:00am.  I wonder if it could've been something I ate!

We picked up Dean and Tom from the Timisoara Airport and took them to the mall to get something to eat.  We once again dined in that fine eating establishment we know as KFC.

As I said in my prayer request, Dean and Tom hit the ground running.  We went to PC 3/4 around 6:00pm and were there until nearly 8:00pm.  They learned how to play Remy and had the opportunity t...

Just another day in Lugoj

March 22, 2010
At school today I shared the Gospel using the Evangecube.

During the women's meeting at Biserica Harul, I talked about how the young people are without continual parental warmth, care, love, support and guidance and how many of them rarely if ever see their parents.  I also talked about their feelings of abandonment and how for many of them I am their mother figure.  I encouraged the women to seek the Lord's will on how they can help these young people... even if it's by prayer support.

I atten...
