Churchin' It round 2

March 21, 2010
Today I was scheduled to be Churchin' It (see 14 March post) from 9:30am until well into the evening.  I was to share in four services at three different churches, accompanying a pastor who spends every Sunday doing the same.  Gabi was my translator.

The first service was in the village of Ghizela at Biserica Harul (Grace Church) from 10:00am until approximately 12:15pm.  We were blessed to have a time of the children reciting poems and Bible verses as well as praise and worship with the Students and the Children's Choir.  I shared a testimony on the faithfulness of God to provide and how we should give thanks in all things.  We also were fed on awesome teaching on I Timothy 3:1-2.

The second service was to be in Secas, a village with only four or five believers, and I was to share words of encouragement.  Unfortunately, we discovered that there had been a death in the village and a funeral was going to be held instead of an actual church service.  I was still willing to go, but before we headed that way, we found out that the decedent was a nonbeliever and that the service would be performed by an Orthodox Priest.  We opted out.

We then attended a service at Biserica Nadejde (Hope Church) in the village of Paniova from 3:00pm - 4:40pm.  Two brothers gave glory to God, the younger by reciting Psalm 23 and the other by playing the keyboard and singing a hymn.  The Student Choir sang and I gave another testimony using my previous themes and shared how God knows what is best for us and that he has a plan for us.  We were just about to study Proverb 30:10-14, when another pastor unexpectedly paid a visit to the church and was extended an invitation to preach.  He was a very dynamic Evangelist and delivered a message with respect to why Romania is not seeing repentance and revival in great numbers as in the time of communism.  He preached from John 12:9-11 and challenged the congregation to pray for revival and to share and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ ("walk the walk not just talk the talk").

We scrambled back to the village of Ghizela for a 5:00pm service and were once again blessed by the Student Choir with more songs and another sister gave a recitation.  I shared another testimony (using the previously mentioned themes) and talked about how we don't always understand God's plan but that we need to trust Him and be prepared to answer the call and fulfill the purpose for which He created us.  We then resumed our study where we left off earlier in the afternoon at I Timothy 3:3-7 and ended around 6:45pm.  This was a great day in the Lord and what a joy and a privelege to experience and see that the church was receiving good, sound and deep Biblical teaching... not only from their pastor, but from an "unexpected" guest pastor as well.  It was almost like being at home at OHC.

THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD
Recorded by Avalon

Chorus:
Your life woven day by day
is a new design of the glory God displays
on the canvas of creation
Through the poem of history
in the pattern of redemption
running through the tapestry
Your life in Christ can be
the greatest story ever told

Checkin' out recent Church Plants (Mondial and Susani)

March 20, 2010
We got to sleep in today!  Delia and I headed out to the village of Susani for a 12:00pm service and it was well attended by 40+ young people of various ages and from at least three different villages.  After I had done a quick lesson and shared the Gospel, seven young people prayed to ask Jesus to come into their lives as their Lord and Savior.  Many existing believers agreed to spread the Gospel and accepted tracts from me to use with friends and relatives.

Delia and I had planned to attend ...

Orphanage vs. Placement Center

March 19, 2010

Once again today started out at GCS.  In the English language classes we were working on size, big vs. small and items found in the classroom.

After school we went to the nearby placement center.  I haven't spent any significant amount of time there since June 2008 (I attended the Mother's Day Program there last Monday as well as the Pizza Party last Friday and only participated in a meeting with the Director last year... during school hours).  I saw several children and young people that I kn...

Laudati pe Domnul! - Praise the Lord!

March 18, 2010
After school today, Gabi, one of my translators, walked to PC 3/4.  Isvan prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior today.  I have been witnessing to this young man since last year.  I have spent time with him on every visit to PC 3/4 this trip and we have covered many different topics.  I asked him to read the book of 1st John last week and this past Monday he told me that he had read it and that he believed.  Praise be to God!

Back to work... or so I thought

March 17, 2010
I didn't return home from Bucharest until about 1:15am this morning.  When I arrived a sleep-walking Delia asked if I would be going to work today and I told her that was my intention; however, I woke up about 6:15am and couldn't see myself jumping out of bed in 75 more minutes so I turned off the alarm clock.  Delia was so sweet and left a note for me before she left.  She returned home to pick me up around 12:15pm... just in time for lunch at the school.  Do I have great timing or what?  We...

3/16/10 - I'm a tourist, not a terrorist. Please don't confiscate my camera!

March 17, 2010

As is the nature of politics, the pro-life prayer meeting was postponed until Wednesday, 17 March.  Unforunately, we are returning to Lugoj this evening so I will not be able to participate after all but have submitted my petitions.  We did however have an opportunity to tour the Baptist Theological Seminary in Bucharest and they served us a lovely brunch there.

After brunch we toured the city and eventually arrived at the Romanian House of Parliament.  Now mind you, we saw no signs that indic...

3/15/10 - We're off to Bucharest and I'm packing... "TP" that is

March 14, 2010
This morning started off at Grace Christian School with English language classes for the 3, 3, 5 and 6 year old children.  At noon we ate lunch and then headed over to Grace Baptist Church (GBC) to meet Gabi, one of my translators, and Brother Ionel at 1:00pm to depart for Bucharest.  On our way to GBC Brother Ionel called Gabi and told her that he would meet us at 1:30pm.  He then called and said that he actually hadn't left Timisoara until a little after 1:00pm and that he should be there w...

I've been churchin' it all day!

March 14, 2010
That's what the Nicely Family calls it when we spend a good portion of Sunday in church or church realted activities.

I headed out to a small village just outside of Lugoj called Hezeris at 9:30am.  There were approximately 12 in attendance.  I shared a testimony on God's provision and faithfulness and how the Lord can and will use anybody and any situation to glorify Himself.  A children's choir of 5 or 6 sang and recited Bible verses.  The message was given by Brother Sorin and he preached o...

Up, up and away...

March 13, 2010
Haley, Dorian, Abbey and Aaron left today.  Four of the young people from the nearby placement center went with us into Timisoara.  First we took them to the mall for window shopping and lunch.  We ate at KFC.  This is not just fastfood here.  It is considered a halfway decent dining experience, as not everyone can afford to indulge.  They had never been to the airport before so this was quite an experiece for them.  The small team, the four young people, Emanuel, Delia, Betina (translators) ...

PIZZA PARTY

March 12, 2010
Today was our last day of Vacation Bible School (VBS) at GCS.  Wednesday through Friday we were able to eat lunch with the children and that was so much fun.  We actually had a break of more than one hour...  but that just meant we didn't have to be somewhere.  Haley and I went to the bank and then to the store to by paper goods for the pizza party.  Then we went to the nearby placement center and brought several different types of pizza and soda to each of the apartments.  The children were ...
