24 March: Day 1 Roof Project on Village Church in Nemesesti and English 101

Brother Ionel and his son Bogdan picked us up at the Olariu home and we arrived at the Tutac Family Home in Costieu just in time for a lovely brunch that Brother Ionel had asked his mother to prepare. We then went to the village of Nemesesti where Dean and Tom were to help put the roof on a new church. While they were scoping out the project, Bogdan and I went to the village school and gave an American history and geography lesson as well as English 101. The village school has only five children in attendance. Most villagers don't have television and they didn't know where Atlanta, Georgia was... but they did know what Coca Cola was. I then did some crafts with them that were left over from Camp Grace at Scoala Crestina Harul.
Bogdan and I returned to the construction site to find the men putting huge beams on the roof of the church. They placed ten in all on this first day. Very intensive labor and back breaking work, but it was all done for the glory of God.
That evening we went down to the village soccer field. Dean and Tom played soccer with some young men there. Shortly thereafter a family of six children arrived and we had our English 101 class and crafts available for them. These same children were at the Costieu village church service the evening the small group was visiting there (11 March).
